A genuinely exceptional customer service experience at Tata Motors – Attur
I have always come across mixed opinions about after-sales service, so I wanted to share a recent experience that genuinely deserves appreciation.
I was travelling from Chennai to Kochi last Thursday (1st October) with my 4-year-old son and my mother. Around 8 PM, I noticed the engine oil warning symbol blinking on my Tata Harrier. Assuming that the engine oil level was low, I purchased and added around 2 litres of engine oil, but the warning did not disappear.
I then checked underneath the vehicle and noticed fluid dripping from both sides. Around 9 PM, near Attur, Tamil Nadu, I contacted Tata customer care. Within about 10 minutes, they arranged a towing vehicle. While the service centre was only about 7.5 km from where I had stopped, I decided to carefully drive to the service centre myself.
I reached the service centre around 10 PM, where the security staff member, Mr Manoharan, explained that the following day (2nd October) was a public holiday and that repairs could normally only be attended to on Monday, 5 October. I explained my situation and requested if there was any possibility of assistance, as I was travelling with my young son and mother and did not know the area.
Mr Manoharan immediately contacted the service centre manager, Mr Sukumar. He too initially explained the situation, but rather than simply asking me to return on Monday, he offered to arrange a cab or help us find a nearby hotel. More importantly, he asked me to wait for about 10 minutes while he tried to see what could be done.
While I was away briefly, I returned to find Mr Sivaneshan, a technician, already checking my vehicle. He inspected the fluid underneath and immediately identified that it was AC condensation water and not engine oil. He also checked the engine oil level and confirmed that it was fine.
He then called the mechanic, Mr Tamil, who arrived within a few minutes. Both of them thoroughly inspected the vehicle. They did not simply give me verbal reassurance. They opened the garage, hoisted vehicle, drained a small amount of oil to inspect the system, and carried out a digital diagnostic check.
After all the checks, they confirmed that there was no apparent oil leak or oil-related issue and that the vehicle was safe to drive to Kochi.
I then drove from Attur to Kochi through the night and reached safely around 5 AM, without any issues whatsoever. When I checked the vehicle again on Friday evening, the warning symbol had disappeared.
What touched me most was not just the technical diagnosis, but the humanity and willingness to help. It was late at night, it was a public holiday, and technically they could have simply told me to come back on Monday. Instead, they considered my situation, my young son, my mother and the fact that I was travelling alone as the driver, and made the effort to help us safely continue our journey.
A heartfelt thank you to Mr Manoharan, Mr Sukumar, Mr Sivaneshan and Mr Tamil for going above and beyond what was expected.
There are many stories online about poor service experiences, but I strongly believe that good experiences deserve to be shared just as loudly.
This experience has genuinely strengthened my trust in Tata Motors and, more importantly, reminded me that behind a brand are people who can make a real difference to a customer's experience.
Thank you, Tata Motors, and especially the wonderful team at the Attur service centre, for taking care of us when we needed help the most. ❤️
Extremely grateful. Truly appreciated.
